Numerical analysis on rotary forging mechanism of a flange

A numerical simulation on the rotary forging process of a flange is conducted by three-dimensional rigid-plastic finite element method. The states of stress and strain rate in the workpiece are analyzed and the forging mechanism of the flange is revealed. Moreover, the influence of the die configuration on the material flow is also analyzed.

The texture inhomogeneity in cross shear rolled grain oriented Si steel was investigated by means of the through thickness texture analysis. For the chosen rolling reductions (55%, 66.5%) and mismatch speed ratios (1.0, 1.1, 1.3), the deformation textures in various thickness layers consist of three major components, i.e. strong g-fiber, medium a-fiber and weak h-fiber, and they show an asymmetrical distribution throughout the thickness. The effect of reduction on the texture gradient is found to be more significant at and near the center layer; however, the effect of mismatch speed ratio is less important. In most cases, a strong {111}<112> texture component appears in the subsurface layers, that may favour the formation of a sharp Goss texture during the subsequent annealing.

External Pressure Forming and Buckling Analysis of Tubular Parts with Ribs

Buckling and forming processes of tubes with varying slenderness ratio (ratio of length to diameter) under external hydraulic pressure were analyzed with three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) for studying tube external pressure forming (EPF). Buckling pressures for different tube blanks without mandrel were predicted, and an EPF of a carbon steel tube onto a mandrel with six ribs was simulated. Both thickness distribution and buckling pressure from the simulations were found to be in agreement with those from experiments. Buckling pressures are shown to be a function of the slenderness ratio. The tubular part with six ribs produced by EPF has a uniform thickness distribution, whose maximum thinning rate is only 5.9%.
